Blog 5 — Course Reflection
By reflecting upon my original blog post, I believe I have learned a great deal about social media and how it can be used to change people’s opinions and persuade them. I have also learned about the pros and cons of social media which I think are very interesting and important to understand. This course was very useful to me as I will be able to use what I learned in my future career, as well as right now as I continue to create posts on social media.
In order to efficiently reflect upon this course, I decided to review my original blog post and see if I achieved my goals during this course. My first goal was to learn a lot more about social media and specifically learn how important it is in today’s society. This course has definitely taught me a lot about how social media is used in today’s society. I have learned how it is used to persuade people’s opinions in both positive and negative manners. In my original blog post, I also mentioned that I had mixed feelings about social media. I said that social media can be used for positive and negative uses and can also be very distracting and addictive. After taking this course, my opinion on social media hasn’t changed much. I have learned more about both sides of social media and see why it can be harmful but is also super important. I think that social media is very important in today’s society and needs to be monitored very carefully. It has many positive aspects but it is important to understand why it can be harmful. The Fyre Festival documentaries did a great job showing its harmful side. It is really easy for people to be manipulated and believe something that might not be real.
The final goal that I had hoped to achieve by taking this course was to use the skills I have acquired from this course to better succeed in my professional/working life. This is more of a long-term goal so I don’t necessarily know how this will play out yet. However, I do know that I have gained a lot more experience working with a group/team and I feel a lot more confident on projects like these now. I do believe that the skills I have acquired during this course will help me in my future career.
Social media is already a huge part of my life and I also use it as a way to make money. I would love it if one day I could make my entire career based on social media. For the past few years, I have created YouTube videos and TikTok posts about running. I didn’t really plan on it actually taking me places when I first started but now it is honestly one of my greatest accomplishments. I now have many sponsorships and have even had opportunities to work with companies to run their social media accounts. In college, I am studying business administration with a minor in media studies. I am hoping that one day everything will pay off and I will be able to make a living off social media and do what I love.
